ABOUT US

The Hamlet of Chard/Janvier South is situated on the shores of Bohn Lake which is located in the southern region of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB). It is approximately 120 kilometres south of Fort McMurray and can be accessed from Alberta Highway 881 as well as by a small airstrip located in the community.

There is a small Metis population in Chard/Janvier South and it is also home to the Chipeywan Prairie Dene First Nation. The local Janvier Dene Wood Buffalo Community Association along with Christina River Dene Nation Council work together to enhance the livelihood and well-being of Chard/Janvier South residents.

According to the 2011 census, there are 195 people living in Janvier. Students attend Father R. Perin from Kindergarten to grade nine.

We formed the Christina River Dene Nation Council Society in 2011 as a result of a desire to better our community. We are all community minded members and strongly believe in supporting our youth and taking care of our elders. We believe that working together and partnering with all industries within the RMWB and County of Lac La Biche, we can begin to build our local economy to support our social programs.
